Josef
Herman a Polish Artist in Wales

Display
Display
is important. Presenting the work well is a sign of valuing
the experience, the effort made and the outcome.
For this project, Hermans work was mounted onto black card
and in some instances, work was window mounted using artists
quality mount board. Hermans work in black and white and in
colour consists of simple, strong and sometimes powerful images.
This work, we felt would be best represented by a simple,
unclutered "clean" display, allowing the work itself
to have the visual prefference when displayed.

As
an outcome of the project and to take the project to a wider
audience, an exhibition was held at the Mission
Gallery, Swansea. The exhibition was officially
opened by Hywel Francis MP. A programme of events were held
to allow children, parents and teachers to visit the gallery
and view the work. The writer and historian Peter Wakelin, presented
an evening public talk, Josef Herman emigre artist and his
contemporaries and a primary education, arts coordinators
evening was held to present the merits of the project to a professional
audience |

Resources
It
is sometimes a problem to find information and source images
suitable for use within the primary school, when studying
art in the locality (Curriculum Cymreig).
Artists
can be contacted directly and many are willing to help with
images, to give information and many are able and willing
to work with children and teachers.
More
publications are becoming available in Wales looking at Welsh
and Wales based artists.
Sometimes
a visit to the local art gallery will prove worthwhile in
providing enough information to be used as a resource for
education.
Publications
have been used as resources during this project that are no
longer in print, but will still be found in remaindered book
shops or found on the Internet.
