Congratulations
to Ifor Davies Gold Medal Winner at the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol
Cymru 2002.

Mr. Ifor Davies - Winner of the Gold Medal in Fine Art
at the National Eisteddfod.
Ifor Davies is
a passionate artist, deeply concerned with contemporary Welsh
affairs and prepared to walk the thin line between successful
and moving statement and parody. His work is a powerful reminder
of the depth of social and political feeling within the visual
arts in Wales and serves to remind us that art can often mean
many things to many people but is at its very best when fashioned
from the heart.
"It was Ifor Davies' piece Yr Ysgifen ar y Mur 1:
Dinistr laith a Chymuned (The Writing on the Wall 1: Destruction
of Language and Community) which provided the abiding image
and stayed with us throughout the entire selection process.
Here is an intensely intelligent and thoughtful artist, mature
and complete, yet still absolutely fresh and still pushing
vigorously and resourcefully at boundaries and conventions.
He is making work of great beauty, which engages the heart,
the intellect and the imagination."
James Campbell, Tim Davies, D Michael Francis, Audrey Walker,
Nathalie Weadick. (Selectors)
