"Village
in Winter"
by Megan Jones
|
"My immediate
surroundings, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park,
continue to offer endless subject matter. Through a great
deal of drawing and working in mixed media, I develop variations
on the themes that interest me the most".

Megan Jones works
from her studio at Ystradgynlais, Swansea Valley, on the edge
of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Landscape, especially of remote areas, is the main inspiration
for her painting and from an intimate knowledge of the subject
matter, including the underlying geology, Megan Jones defines
pattern and form. Marks on the land created by weathering
and those left by man contribute to the whole, and strong
colour expresses the impact of light and the depth of shadows.

"In
Wales there are jewels
To gather, but with the eye
Only, A hill lights up
Suddenly; a field trembles
With colour and goes out
In its turn; in one day
You can witness the extent
Of the spectrum and grow rich
With looking."
