"My paintings are narratives of events
that I see emerging from the painting. My work is like a moment
captured in time. I see many paintings full of action, and
paintings full of poetry. I look at art history as I believe
it speaks to me of fantastic human capabilities. I do not
try to compete with the past, but it gives me confidence because
through these images I see mother and child, or husband or
bride, or hero and anti-hero, figures which come spontaneously
from within me. These fictional characters can be comical
or tragic, playful or serious. The narratives have no beginning
or end.

Now more than anything it is
easier to be a painter. I feel I can paint any subject. I
cannot hide my joy and I am free in my painting. I am making
my own rules, telling my own stories, from the information
that comes into my brain daily.

| I am originally from
Caernarfon, North Wales and currently live in Cardiff with my
artist partner. I studied for my BA and MA at Cardiff Institute
of Higher Education, where I developed my painting under Terry
Setch. My large scale representations from life and imagination,
created in my own painterly manner, generated interest and appreciation..
I valued the time in higher education because it made me aware
of individuality. |

I have exhibited
nationally and internationally in group shows. These have
included 'Homeland', a group exhibition by women based on
our response to theme of 'Homeland'. I have been in numerous
exhibitions as a member of Group 75, including successful
shows in Cape Town, South Africa. I was selected as one of
2001's outstanding MA graduates for the national 'Ida Branson
Memorial Bequest Exhibition'. I was with 'Meta: Imaging the
Imagination', a group exhibition by painters and poets, which
toured Wales and Lithuania, two cultures with roots in folklore
and poetry. I was the representative of Wales in the 2002
'Euro Celtic Art' exhibition, at the Interceltic Festival,
Lorient, Brittany." |
