hannah collins
'the street'
heard the name but couldn't pin any work to her.. this show
has very large digital prints of outdoor scenes two tone
in dark mustard yellow and with the other one b/w version
carry some weight as an art unit.. the other works lose
this momentum I believe very quickly... the most time of
viewing was taken up with the video installation of again
large images, five acting as one featuring camera and sound
work of the poor in Barcelona.. on times sound and image
captured the imagination but most of all the camera work
was very good...
thomas hirschhorn
' united nations miniature'
large installation work, yet isn't it all, of scenes he
constructed with cardboard, paper, plastic, lights complemented
with a lot of written information regarding the work carried
out by the UN.. anyway the work involved seemed a lot yet
I thought it didn't have any really energy for a work that
size....
permanent work
the rest of the gallery is made up of a collection of various
artists from all over, american and European ones such as
cindy sherman, jenny holzer and liam gillick known for his
translucent plastic and aluminium coloured shelving, seen
in recent years at the annolfini bristol if I'm right..
a piece that I supposed I liked was ernesto neto a wall
hanging whose main content of polystyrene balls was held
together by what seemed like a large pair of tights that
all formed a shape similar to a nice big pair of ....
a recent invite
to contribute on the mathew bannister show 5live last Monday
27th oct may result in further contributions on views on
art and the turner prize...

colour identity
does an artists palette relate to his environment... e.g.
david bomberg and andy warhols own contributions could only
have been made to where they were... picasso could not have
produced the work that he did living in wales.... working
in malaga recently again left me with the inability to work
how I would at home.. being in spain for example with its
overhead sun produced a colour range that we can only expect
to see living here for a couple of weeks of the year...
and that is how we understand our environment, through light....
wales/ uk can brag a wave of earth colours that will change
through a huge degree where as the hotter climate will capture
the primary pigments better... I suppose its because the
primary's are the only one which can be seen under the bleaching
conditions and the light trapped here is more subtle....
like I mentioned taking what you know is not just about
what you have found, it may very well be how you have adapted
your work.. that's why it is important to travel I suppose,
even if it just is to readapt to the worlds constant offer
of colour choice....
